ALPHA CELESTE RELEASE VIDEO FOR 'PALE BLUE NOTHING':
'Won't Get Nowhere' by Christian Gregory: The second single on Movement Records
CELESTE: ‘People Like Me’
Released: 25th August 2014
Intergalactic Space Troubadours Release Their Debut Single on Michael Kiwanuka’s Movement Records.
On 25th August 2014, Movement Records will release People Like Me, the stunning debut single by ground-breaking new band ‘Celeste’ - a fusion of musicians from some of the best groups of recent years, taking the nation by storm with their own unique blend of psychedelic indie rock and hypnotic soul.
Celeste are Pete Cochrane (Vocals & Bass), Miles James (Guitar) and Graham Godfrey (Drums). They met when Pete was touring with the Mystery Jets and Miles & Graham were touring with Michael Kiwanuka – both support acts for Mumford & Sons during their recent tour of the USA. After bonding over backstage BBQ's, ping pong games and a bottle of moonshine they picked up in Twin Peaks, a pilgrimage to the Movement Records studio became an inevitable stroke of fate.
Lovers of West Coast Soft Rock and 70’s Soul, the band combine dreamy psychedelic palettes with Soul rhythm section sensibilities. Recording tracks in whole takes, using a range of vintage instruments and recording gear in order to capture an organic vibe, Celeste describe their sound as “Like a fragment of MoonRock: If Sigma Sound Studios ever relocated to the Moon and Fleetwood Mac were in session".
The result is People Like Me, an inimitable debut record that combines an eclectic range of musical influences. You can hear echoes of Ned Doheny's soaring vocal, Tom Petty's guitar tones and Idris Muhammad's Tom fills blended with analogue synth textures and driving disco rhythms, all of which results in a unique and accomplished debut single.
Setting a new standard, People Like Me propels Celeste into the industry as ‘ones to watch’ and a buzz band for 2014 and beyond.
MOVEMENT RECORDS SIGN MAJOR US DISTIBUTION DEAL WITH FAT POSSUM & Sony RED
Independent label Movement Records, run by UK soul artists Michael Kiwanuka and Christian Gregory, have signed a major deal with legendary Mississippi based label Fat Possum and Sony Entertainment’s distribution arm RED. Fat Possum were famously instrumental in the rise of musicians such as R.L. Burnside and The Black Keys.
Fat Possum will be Movement Records’ partner in the USA and will distribute releases through Sony RED’s network, as well as coordinating PR/Marketing and sync opportunities.
First release will be an EP from singer songwriter and Movement co-founder Christian Gregory on 19th August, with further releases soon to follow.
Speaking about the deal, Kiwanuka says:
“Our new partnership with Fat Possum and Sony RED gives us the opportunity to release our records in the USA through a label with a similar ethos to our own. It’s an important step in our story as a new label, and we’re excited to have a US partner with such a great track record who shares our vision.”
Fat Possum is home to the first two albums from The Black Keys, the Hi Catalog featuring all of Al Green’s masters and their new artists this year include Temples and The Districts. They have also released albums from Lissie, Spiritualized and Iggy and the Stooges.
Movement Records’ emphasis on releasing live recordings, captured in one take using vintage instruments and analogue recording equipment lends itself well to the philosophy of Fat Possum, the two labels’ kindred spirits in both character and mission.
The New York Times' T Magazine premiered the video Gregory’s EP title track and said that it "recalls the classic '70s funk of Bill Withers and Curtis Mayfield."
Umbria Rock Festival 2014
1st – 3rd August 2014
PAUL WELLER, THE CHARLATANS, BASEMENT JAXX,
PETER HOOK & THE LIGHT,
JAMES, KAISER CHIEFS, COURTEENERS, THE CRIBS
On 1st – 3rd August 2014 the picturesque valleys of Massa Martana, Italy will host the inaugural Umbria Rock Festival, a three day music and arts festival featuring a stellar line up of British dance, indie & rock legends.
Day one will be headlined by UK dance royalty Basement Jaxx, bringing their unique and spectacular live show to Umbria’s luscious landscapes. Peter Hook, founding member of seminal post-punk band Joy Division and electric rock pioneers New Order will also perform with his brilliant band The Light.
On day two, ‘The Modfather’ himself Paul Weller will take centre stage, giving festival goers the chance to witness an inimitable performance one of the best and most respected rock musicians in the world. Also headlining are indie rock gods The Charlatans
who over the course of their prolific career have hypnotised audiences worldwide. Universally respected Manchester band The Courteeners provide support.
The final day of the festival will play host to band of the moment The Kaiser Chiefs, performing tracks from their latest no.1 album along with all their hits. Indie heavyweights and Johnny Marr collaborators The Cribs will also wow the crowds and renaissance rockers James will perform new material as well as the classics for which they’re known.
Lead singer of James Tim Booth says of the festival:
"We are really looking forward to coming to play at Umbria Rock 2014. It's a while since we've been in Italy, so this is a great opportunity to showcase our new record, as well as some of our fans favourites. It's an honour to be part of this new festival, which I'm sure will be a massive success."
Organisers of the festival hope to capture some of the magic of Italy’s rich cultural history and fuse this with the UK’s rich rock heritage. Yashwant Bajaj, CEO and Director of Asha Music, says “
The idea behind the festival is really an attempt to bridge the gap between Italians’ collective passion for music and art and the type of concert experiences currently available in Italy….we’re evoking 60s Italy and Britain for a reason. That was a time when both countries were at the centre of the universe in regards to culture and art, and I think Umbria Rock Festival is a way to breathe new life into that while uniting Italian natives, tourists and expats.”
Umbria Rock is situated amongst the mountain ranges just outside the ancient town of Massa Martana, one of the classic walled towns of central Italy, deep in the heart of a region known for its landscapes, traditions, history, artistic legacy, and influence on culture. The festival will be a special event bound to create life long memories for all who attend.

‘Won’t Get Nowhere’
Released: 07 July 2014
The outstanding second single from one of the UK’s most exciting new artists, released on Michael Kiwanuka’s Movement Records.
Movement Records will release ‘Won’t Get Nowhere’ on 07 July 2014, the brand new single from their debut artist; multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Christian Gregory. ‘Won’t Get Nowhere’ is the follow up single to the widely celebrated debut track ‘Count On You’ (co-written with Kiwanuka), which won widespread praise in the music press and was championed by a plethora of UK radio including XFM and BBC 6 Music. ‘Won’t Get Nowhere’ takes Gregory’s singing voice into a different realm, highlighting his impressive vocal range and songwriting prowess, while creating a laid back atmospheric vibe with a strong lyrical message.
Gregory explains: “The track is all about keeping going relentlessly, no matter how dark or bleak a situation may be. It’s about picking yourself up and finding the strength to persist. It’s also a reminder that it’s easy to trick yourself into giving up just because things get tough - you have to talk yourself out of that. You either dig in, keep going and move forward, or give up and get nowhere.”
‘Won’t Get Nowhere’ continues with Movement Records’ ethos of recording all of their output direct to tape with no digital editing or plugins, in order to capture an organic live sound. Every instrument on ‘Won’t Get Nowhere’ was tracked to tape on a 1970’s MCI tape machine and was fully engineered & produced by the Movement team, with final mixes created by NYC based producer Ben Kane (producer of debut single ‘Count On You’ and currently working with Emily King and D’Angelo)
‘Won’t Get Nowhere’ is an undeniably well written and brilliantly implemented piece of work that enhances the output of this new record label and further demonstrates what the team are capable of achieving with their music, simultaneously providing something fresh and unique to today’s modern musical spectrum.

Christian Gregory - 'Count On You'
Released: 20th April 2014
The debut single on brand new label Movement Records.
On April 20th 2014, Movement Records will release ‘Count On You’, the stunning debut single from exciting new artist Christian Gregory, a multi-instrumentalist singer songwriter bringing his own blend of soul back to the mainstream. ‘Count On You’ will be the first ever release on this brand new UK and US based label. ‘Count On You’ was co-written with internationally renowned musician and Movement Records director Michael Kiwanuka. The track fuses raw funk with the smooth, soulful tones of Gregory’s vocals, combining to create a sound that only the most talented musicians in the industry could create.
‘Count On You’ was recorded in one take at the Movement Records studio in North London using a range of vintage instruments and recording gear, in order to capture a live sound and to cultivate an organic and special feel to the track.
As Gregory explains: “I love when records have details that you only notice after you've heard it over and over again. On ‘Count On You’, we recorded the core parts of the track in one take to catch a live vibe. Then I got in the studio and experimented with unusual recording techniques to add different details and textures to the track.”
The track was mixed in New York by Ben Kane, who has recently been working on D’Angelo’s long-awaited third album. Kane’s input further enhances the single, and with Michael Kiwanuka on co-writing credits the finished result is exceptional.
Movement Records have achieved a strong and distinctive debut single, positioning Gregory as one of the most exciting new artists on the scene today.
London Afrobeat Collective release the ‘Prime Minister EP’ featuring a remix from Los Angeles based party starter Captain Planet.
London’s hottest live band will release their highly anticipated brand new single ‘Prime Minister’ on 25th November 2013, featuring radio edits and a stunning remix from in demand US producer Captain Planet, famous for remixing the likes of Little Dragon, Erykah Badu and Mayer Hawthorne.
After the success of their 2011 debut album ‘L.A.C.’, the ‘Prime Minister’ EP, sees the 10 piece super-group hone their instrumental skill, adding elements of current political commentary to their lyrics, while enhancing the raw energy and dance floor intensity that forged their notorious reputation as a ‘must see’ live act.
New lead vocalist Funke Adeleke says of the new EP: 'Prime Minister is a dancefloor smash with lyrics written for the times and we're super psyched to have one of our favourite producers on remix duty!'
2013 saw L.A.C. take the festival circuit by storm, building on their stunning debut when Michael Eavis personally invited them to open the West Holts (formerly the Jazz World stage) at Glastonbury. The band has staged rip-roaring performances at Bestival, Secret Garden Party, Green Man, Shambala, Standon Calling and Wilderness festivals, not to mention performing tracks with indie stars Bombay Bicycle Club at Bestival, Latitude, Reading and Glastonbury.
